I just can’t decide about this one.
It’s an acrylic painting I’ve made using a palette knife.
It’s a bit chaotic, which I like.
But maybe a bit too chaotic, which is not good.
It has some depth, but maybe not enough.
And it has some details which I like.
But maybe they get lost.
So I’ll need your help here.
Is it good, or is it bad?
Great job. I really like it. The darker colours draws and keeps my eye in the top third of the painting. It depends where you want the focal point to be… making a darker area even darker to give it a focal point, or darker areas in the lower third to have the eye move around the painting more?? Not sure, because whatever presentation has a beauty.
Thank you! I wish I could say that I’ve thought all of that out, and made a carefully planned painting. But that would be a very big lie 🙂 I usually just go with the flow, and hope for the best. I really enjoy it when it works out 🙂
I think it is an interesting question… Is it good or bad… It’s your artistic journey… Maybe it’s teaching you what you like and don’t like. Appraising a painting is a good idea. You can learn many things… Like for some viewers there’s a swimmer.. That’s excellent that the painting speaks to each individual viewer differently… I think the most important thing is whether you like it despite other people’s expectations or judgments… And if you don’t like it to learn something of yourself through it. It could be guiding you
You have a lot of good points there 🙂 I often have an opinion about my paintings, at least nowadays, but in this case I just can’t decide what I think. So it’s nice getting some input. I’m not there yet, where I trust my own opinion regardless of what others think. But I am getting a lot closer. But the most important thing is to learn from every painting, and let it be what it is. Thank you for your thoughts on the subject, and a good reminder 🙂
You are most welcome, I am not there yet too😉 I think the inner critic can overpower ones own inner guidance. Best wishes.
Likewise 🙂
I think it’s good I definitely see the water element and I love the small stokes of brown which catch your eye. Definitely good 👍
I’m very glad you think so, Elaine! There is a lot happening in it, so it’s nice to see it through others eyes 🙂
I think it’s very interesting. Immediately caught my eye. I like the colors and textures.
I’m very glad it did 🙂 I’m happy with the texture, so that was a nice experience. I spent a little more time on that than usual. Thanks for commenting 🙂
GOOD! I don’t see nature in it, though. Instead, since I’m a swimmer, I see a busy lap pool. (To know what I mean, go to Google and search images for «swim meet warm up» and that’s it). To me, it’s an accurate impressionist representation of a lap pool during a typically chaotic warm up session before a competition (which is pretty cool).
Haha, I love that 😀 At least you see water, which is the element I was going for. I love it when a painting gives someone else a whole other meaning than I intended, though. Thank you for letting me know. Sounds like a splash 😉
I think this is a good idea. I would probably add some strokes that depict swimmers.
I see what you mean. It is missing a focal point, come to think of it.
Does it have to be good or bad? It exists and has life.
That’s true, Cheyenne. It doesn’t. But it’s very interesting getting other peoples opinion on it. Still a quality check, I guess 🙂
It is interesting getting other people’s opinions. Our community here is very responsive that way. Since my own art is evolving I tend to shy away from the restrictions of good, bad, and the ugly. The results are what they are as I trust the process to take me where I haven’t been.
You have a good point there, Cheyenne 🙂 It is what it is, no matter how it turns out. And always a lesson learned 🙂
About your question, I don’t want to judge your painting. I just want to say I very much like it–the texture in particular.
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback. I spent some time getting a layer of model paste on, before spray painting it all black. I then added the paint 🙂
