Taking the Birch Trees Into the Screen

I’ve done a lot of ink drawings depicting birch trees lately.

I really enjoy that pen on paper feeling, working hard to keep the style loose.

However, I was wondering if this style would work if trying to convey it to the screen.

More precisely, by drawing them on my ipad.

Well, there’s only one way to find out.

And this is how it ended up:

I have to say, it wasn’t quite the same feeling doodling out lines with a digital pen.

Feeling the pen against paper, almost scraping the ink down, is a hard one to surpass, I guess.

But it gave me the opportunity to add some different styles and objects to the scenery.

Having a look to see what would work.

Mainly by adding colour more cleanly to the trees, and working around with the patterns.

I also acted on a whim by adding some rough flowers to the scene.

I think that ended up as a nice addition to the more powerful strokes of the trees.

So I might just make a few more of these digital versions to test some new ideas.

I hope you are doing alright, and that you’re having a good day!
