I’m currently in the process of using palette knives for depicting waves.
Basically by adding a wash, and then gently scraping the paint off to give the impression of foam.
When it works out, I think it looks great.
But it’s hard to get it right in a whole painting.
And I only get one go at it before it turns wrong.
So this is one of my practice paintings.
Probably in a long series of paintings before I get it right.
But what do you think?
Is the look pleasing to the eye?
I hope you are doing alright, and that you’re having a good day!
It definitely gives it a sense of movement. I could never get the hang of watercolours!
It sure is a struggle. But what a feeling it is when it works out the way you wanted 🙂
I have always admired Van Gogh’s use of a palette knife. Not owning one myself, I have tried to copy his paintings with regular brushes and it just cannot be done! I also love to paint the water and sky. Love the gradation of your blues. This post has inspired me to finally purchase a palette knife-Onward, ho!
That’s fantastic, Robyn! The palette knife has become a huge part of my paintings, adding something that I’ve never managed using brushes. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I’ve done 🙂
Looks good it has depth
Thank you, Elaine 🙂 I think it’s an exciting look 🙂
